South Africa prominent in festival of twinning cities

 

From 6th till 14th of June a festival to promote the idea of twinning cities will be held in Dordrecht NL. The town of Dordrecht NL has a twinning with three cities: the town of Varna (Bulgaria), the town of Bamenda (Cameroun) and the town of Dordrecht (South Africa).

As to South Africa the Foundation Dordrecht South Holland - Dordrecht South Africa is involved in the festival. In that second week of June the foundation participates in various ways by orginazing

  • a concert of Giovanca, a popular pop-artist with Antillian roots living in Amsterdam; she will bring South African jazz among others;
  • a concert of the Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness, a group of young musicians from Soweto, now on tour in the Netherlands; it brings a mix of urban soul, African chants, traditional instruments and modern beats;
  • the wellknown movie Tsotsi (2006), a movie about agression and hope within the rough youngster scene of the townships of Johannesburg;
  • a lecture by Charlotte van den Berg on aids; Charlotte is a nurse living and working in Dordrecht SA;, she is involved with all aspects of aids problems in Dordrecht SA, the medical and the preventive, the social and cultural aspects as well.
